Kodachi(short sword) is the last weapon of a samurai. In Hiko-ryu, we practice how to deal with the enemy’s big sword using the kodachi.
The long-handled kotachi, devised by Master Koshiro Tanaka, is not only easy to use as an extension of Taijutsu(bare-handed fighting techniques), but is also robust enough to fight with a large sword, and is organized into an excellent system of sword techniques.
The Japanese sword is the epitome of “spirit,” “culture,” and “practicality,” and we teach it carefully to both beginners and advanced students.
In the Hiko-ryu curriculum, Kodachi is considered to be a level above Taijutsu. However, those who desire can learn Kodachi specifically, or concurrently with Taijutsu.
